Ayush was injured while batting against Hyderabad.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Ayush Mhatre is out of IPL 2026. The team confirmed that the 18-year-old batsman has suffered a hamstring injury and will need to rehab for 6 to 12 weeks.
Injured against SRH
He suffered the injury while batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad on 18 April. While attempting the second run in that match, he suddenly stopped holding his left hamstring.
He was given treatment on the field twice during the match, but after being out, he was taken off the field with the help of Ramakrishna Ghosh and physio Tommy Simsek. Later on Monday, his scanning was done, which revealed the seriousness of the injury.
Ayush was taken out with a shoulder brace after his dismissal against SRH.
Mhatre had scored two half-centuries
Ayush Mhatre has been the most successful batsman for Chennai so far this season. He has scored two half-centuries and his strike rate has been 177.87. Mhatre’s exclusion is being considered a big loss for CSK.
The team is already struggling to find momentum in the tournament. CSK lost the first three matches, then registered two consecutive wins, but recently suffered defeat again in Hyderabad.
Ayush has scored 201 runs in this IPL season.
Khalil is also out
Before Ayush, fast bowler Khalil Ahmed was also out of the tournament. Apart from this, Nathan Ellis was out even before the start of the tournament due to injury.
On the other hand, Dewald Brevis did not play in the initial matches, while MS Dhoni has not been available in a single match so far. Now, based on his fitness, he is likely to be included in the playing eleven.
CSK’s next match will be played against Mumbai Indians on April 23 at Wankhede Stadium.
