Ayushmann Mohapatra from Odisha has scored 500/500 marks in CBSE 10th board exam. He has scored perfect 100 in top 5 subjects. CBSE had released the 10th board result on 15 April.

Ayushmann is currently 15 years old and has done 10th board from Aditya Birla Public School. His family lives in Harirajpur village in Puri, Odisha.

In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Ayushmann is telling about his preparation…

Talking about his first reaction regarding the results, Ayushmann says, ‘I was in the school bus when the results were announced. Was returning home from school. Friends asked the roll number and told after seeing the result. I couldn’t believe it. Thought friends were pranking. Then I came home and checked the results myself. CBSE uploads the result on three portals, I went to all three and checked my result… I was convinced only then…

Never thought that I would get 100% result. It was expected that I would get good marks in English, Science and Artificial Intelligence, but I did not think that I would get perfect 100 in Mathematics, Social Science and Odia also.

Mother used to teach me in childhood

Never took tuition since childhood. In childhood, only mother used to teach. Even now, until I finish my studies, my mother sits nearby. My mother paid a lot of attention to my studies since childhood. Now she also teaches her younger sister.

Keep basic concepts clear instead of rote learning.

Teachers helped in school and this was possible through self-study at home. Cleared basic concepts instead of rote learning or studying for more time. For this, apart from NCERT books, I practiced from RD Sharma’s book. Also joined Physicswala’s online course and also read his reference books.

Followed the syllabus instead of relying on a book.

First of all see NCERT syllabus. Don’t panic after seeing the syllabus. Buy only the latest edition of NCERT books. Instead of just finishing books, read the concepts from NCERT syllabus. If I had depended on just one book, I would never have been able to get 100. Maths paper was tough, since I had also practiced with RD Sharma, I faced less problems.

Be consistent regarding study timings

Physicswala’s Udaan was studying online course for NEET batch since 9th class. In this too, there was more focus on clearing all the concepts. Be consistent regarding timing of studies. Sometimes instead of studying for 8 or 1 hour, I used to study for 2 to 2.5 hours every day. In that too the focus was on strengthening the foundational knowledge and not on clearing the exam.

Interested in science, especially biology. I want to become a doctor. From 8th class itself, I started knowing a little bit about NEET exam, like how the exam is conducted, what are the career options after it. However, I had decided long ago that I wanted to become a doctor. So I have just taken PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) in Science stream. Next is to crack NEET.

Didn’t limit myself to just studies

I have been learning art since childhood, like to play keyboard musical instruments. I also give my best in school sports activities. Learned coding. I try to give my best in whatever I do. Never limited myself to studies only.

The family had given assurance before the exam. Papa had said, ‘There is no problem even if you bring 33%’. I kept myself calm in the exam hall. If I ever felt stressed before an exam, I would talk to my mom or dad.

Focused on week subjects

Social Science was my week subject, even in 9th class I got less marks in it compared to other subjects. Got around 96% in 9th. Had to work hard in Physics also, because some concepts were not clear. Solved question papers of extra study materials. But along with this, I did not leave out the other subjects which were my strengths.

This is what a typical day at school looks like for me.

Would get ready for school by 6:40 in the morning. The bus used to come to take us to school. School continued till 2 pm. Used to reach home by 2:40. After dinner, I would enjoy some free time till 5 pm, usually by playing FIFA or quiz games on my phone.

After this, online course classes were held till around 8 pm. After that there was dinner and then 2 to 2.5 hours of self study time. Maximum used to sleep by 11:30. It is still the same.
