1. Allahabad HC Justice Yashwant Verma resigns
On April 10, Justice Yashwant Verma of Allahabad High Court sent his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu.
- Bundles of Rs 500-500 notes were found burnt in the house of Justice Yashwant on 14 March 2025.
- After this controversy, he was transferred from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court.
- On April 5, 2025, Justice Yashwant took oath in Allahabad High Court. However, he was not given any responsibility.
- After the cash incident, an impeachment motion was brought against Justice Verma in the Lok Sabha. He had challenged the impeachment motion brought against him.
- Justice Verma did law from Delhi University.
- Justice Verma had registered himself as an advocate in August 1992.
- Justice Verma was the Special Counsel of Allahabad High Court from 2006 till his promotion.
- He was the Chief Standing Counsel of Uttar Pradesh State from 2012 to August 2013.
- Justice Verma was then nominated as senior advocate.
- In 2014, Justice Yashwant Verma was appointed Additional Judge of Allahabad High Court.
- In 2021, Justice Yashwant Verma was appointed to the Delhi High Court.
- Along with being a judge in the Delhi High Court, he was a member of 11 committees like Administrative and General Supervision Committee, Committee for Finance and Budgeting.
- Apart from this, he was also the Chairman of Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee and Committee of the Delhi International Arbitration Centre.

While working initially in Allahabad High Court, he worked mostly on civil matters.
2. ISRO completes Gaganyaan Integrated Air Drop Test
On April 9, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully completed the second Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-02) for the Gaganyaan mission.
- The Integrated Air Drop Test is a test of returning a dummy crew module from space to Earth. This test took place at Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.
- In this, it is necessary for the parachute system to open at the right time.
- When a spacecraft returns from space to Earth, its speed is very high, then only the parachute controls its speed.
- Safe landing is possible only because of parachute and ISRO has achieved success in this landing.
Gaganyaan Mission
- Gaganyaan mission is India’s first manned space mission. It is to be launched in 2027.
- Under this mission, 3 Indian astronauts will be sent to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for 3 days.
- The distance to LEO will be 400 km. In this mission, astronauts will remain in space for 3 days. India is doing this training in collaboration with Russia.
- If India succeeds in Gaganyaan, it will be the fourth country to launch a manned space mission after USA, Russia and China.
- The first three unmanned (uncrewed) missions of Gaganyaan will be sent G1, G2, G3.
- The total budget of Gaganyaan is Rs 10 thousand crores.
- ISRO is chaired by V. Narayanan.

More than 8 thousand ground testing will be done before the final mission of Gaganyaan.

3. Former cricketer CD Gopinath passes away
Former cricketer CD Gopinath passed away on 9 April. He was 96 years old.
- Gopinath was the last surviving player of the team that won the first Test cricket in 1952.
- Gopinath was also India’s oldest living Test cricketer and the second oldest living cricketer in the world after Australia’s Neil Harvey.
- Gopinath was born on 1 March 1930 in Madras (now Chennai). His full name was Chingalput Duraikannu Gopinath.
- Gopinath played his first Test cricket in 1951 against England at Brabourne Stadium.
- Batting at number 8, Gopinath scored unbeaten 50 runs in his first innings.
- India defeated M.A. of Chennai during the same match. Won the first test match by defeating England by eight runs at Chidambaram Stadium.
- Gopinath played 8 Tests and 83 first-class matches representing India and Madras.

CD Gopinath started playing at the age of 17.

4. Stand in the name of Ravi Shastri unveiled at Wankhede Stadium
On 10 April, a stand named after former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri was unveiled at the Wankhede Stadium.
- The stadium also has doors named after former Indian cricketers Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar and Diana Edalji.
- Edalji captained India in the 1978 and 1993 Women’s ODI World Cups.
- In 1985, Ravi Shastri hit 6 sixes in an over at the Wankhede Stadium and was the first Indian batsman to do so.
- In 1985, Ravi Shastri was chosen ‘Champion of Champions’ in the World Championship of Cricket.
- Ravi Shastri was the coach of the Indian cricket team from 2017 to 2021. In 2019, the Indian team reached the World finals.
- After retiring from cricket in 1994, he started as a TV commentator at the World Masters Tournament in Mumbai in 1995.
- His voice is considered very effective in the world of commentary.

5. India co-chaired the 28th ASEAN
On April 9, India hosted the 28th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting.
- It was co-chaired by P. Kumaran, former Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Leo M. Herrera-Lim, Policy Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs of the Philippines.
- In this meeting, how much work has been done on the decisions of the ASEAN-India Summit held in October last year and their progress was reviewed.
- Discussed celebrating 2026 as ASEAN-India ‘Year of Maritime Cooperation’ and strengthening their partnership.
- ASEAN-India aims to enhance cooperation in maritime activities, including shipping, maritime safety and conservation of marine resources.
- In this ASEAN-India meeting, the agenda of the 48th ASEAN Summit to be held in 2026 was discussed.
- ASEAN aims to promote economic, political and security cooperation in Southeast Asia.
- ASEAN is a group of 11 countries. It includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the recently added East Timor (Timor-Leste).
- ASEAN’s conversation partners include India, Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the US.
- ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967. Its headquarters is in Jakarta, Indonesia.
6. Union Minister Manohar Lal on 4-day visit to Bhutan
On April 10, Energy Minister Manohar Lal arrived on a 4-day visit to Bhutan. During the visit the minister met Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay.
- In another meeting, Union Minister Manohar Lal also met Bhutan’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Jam Tshering.
- During the meeting, both the ministers talked about trade related issues of hydro power and regional power.
- There were talks between the two countries to increase future cooperation between India and Bhutan and to create a better structure in the power sector.
- The main sectors of co-operation will be non-hydro energy, cross border transmission and capacity building.
- On this occasion, both the countries signed the Tariff Protocol of Punatsangchu-II Hydro Electric Project and Reactive Energy Accounting Power Exchange of Reactive Power Exchange.

A friendship treaty was signed between India and Bhutan in 1949. There is a free trade arrangement under the Friendship Treaty as amended in 2007.
