1. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will reach Germany today
On April 21, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will go on a 3-day visit to Germany. This visit of Rajnath is to further strengthen the strategic defense partnership between the two countries.
- During his visit, the Defense Minister will hold bilateral talks with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
- In this meeting, both the leaders will talk on issues related to increasing military engagement, cyber security, artificial intelligence.
- Defense Minister Rajnath will also talk to key representatives of the German defense industry during this visit.
- Co-production and co-development under the Make-in-India initiative will be discussed in the meeting.
- Submarine deal can also be discussed during this visit, submarine deal worth about 10 billion dollars under Project-75 (AI) can be a major agenda.
- During this visit, the Defense Ministers of both the countries can also sign an MoU for cooperation in industrial collaboration and United Nation Peacekeeping Operations training.
- India and Germany are a strong and multi-faceted strategic partner. The aim of this visit is to strengthen bilateral relations.

2. Trade talks started between India and America
On April 20, India and the United States will once again begin trade talks in the first phase of a bilateral trade agreement (BTA).
- Darpan Jain, Additional Secretary, Commerce Ministry, will lead the Indian delegation in the trade talks.
- Customs and External Affairs officers will also participate in this trade talks.
- The purpose of this 3-day talks is to once again discuss the global tariff structure imposed by America.
- In this discussion, there can be talk on reducing tariff rates, better access to the market, increasing supply chain and improving investment.
- These talks are important for US tariffs. Both countries are reevaluating the framework of the proposed agreement following the changes in tariffs.
- The US Supreme Court had imposed a temporary 10 percent tariff on imports from all countries for 150 days under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
- The structure of the interim trade agreement between India and America was already released in February 2026.
- India and the US are working towards a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by 2025, with several negotiations having already been completed in the first round.
- India may also discuss reduction or elimination of tariffs on US soybean oil, dry fruits, and wine.
- America is one of India’s largest trading partners.

3. Textile Ministry launches handloom ‘Vishwa Sutra’ Initiative
On April 19, the Textile Ministry launched an initiative named ‘Vishwa Sutra – India’s Knitting for the World’.
- Vishwa Sutra Initiative has designer handloom collections.
- This initiative was launched at the 61st Femina Miss India held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- This initiative has been developed by the National Institute of Fashion Designing and Development Commissioner (Handloom) Office.
- Vishwa Sutra Initiative aims to present Indian handloom designs globally.
- Under this initiative, more than 30 different handloom designs from across the country will be brought together. All of them will represent different states.
- This initiative is part of the government’s ‘Vocal for Local to Global’.
- This initiative is part of PM Modi’s 5F structure – from farm, to fiber, to factory, to fashion, to foreign.
- This initiative aims to preserve cultural heritage, provide sustainable employment and promote handloom in India’s textile industry.

5. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval reached UAE
On April 19, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia. Doval reached Riyadh.
- He was welcomed by India’s Ambassador to Riyadh Suhail Khan and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Political Affairs Saud Al-Sati.
- During this visit, Doval held high-level talks with UAE Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman and National Security Advisor Musaid bin Mohammed Al-Aiban and senior leaders.
- Many issues including bilateral cooperation, regional security and mutual interest were discussed in this meeting.
- On April 17, Doval held extensive talks with Rustam Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. This journey is India’s series on global security issues.

6. RELOS agreement between India and Russia comes into force
On April 18, Russia informed about the implementation of the Reciprocal Exchange of Logistic Support (RELOS) defense agreement between India and Russia.
- Under RELOS, both the countries will be able to deploy up to 3000 soldiers on each other’s land.
- Along with RELOS, permission has also been given for deployment of 5 warships and 10 military aircraft.
- Under the agreement, the armies of the countries will be able to use each other’s military bases, airbases and ports, which will make long-term military deployment and operations easier.
- Logistic support is also included in this deal. Under this, fuel, water, repairs, technical resources and other essential supplies will be made available.
- Along with this, air traffic control and flight related services will also be available for the planes.
- This agreement was signed in February 2025 and it was also approved by Russia in December 2025.
- This will be applicable for 5 years, which can be extended further with mutual consent.
- However, this agreement is not for war. It will be used only for peace time training, joint exercises and logistics support.
- This deal is being considered an important step in the strengthening strategic partnership between India and Russia, which will further improve military coordination and cooperation between the two countries.
