Sumit has won gold medal in javelin in Tokyo and Paris Paralympics.

Two-time Paralympic gold medalist Sumit Antil has accused Dronacharya Awardee coach Naval Singh of mental harassment and abuse. Sumit has filed a complaint in SAI (Sports Authority of India). Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has also supported this complaint.

Abused the family, harassed them by sending audio recordings

Tokyo and Paris Paralympics gold medalist Sumit Antil alleges that coach Naval Singh targeted not only him but also Neeraj Chopra. According to Sumit, the coach crossed professional limits and used abusive language towards their families. Sumit told that the coach deliberately sent his abusive audio recordings to his managers, so that they could reach him and harass him mentally.

Many athletes including Neeraj Chopra supported Sumit

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, para athletes Navdeep Singh and Sandeep Chaudhary have also supported Sumit’s complaint. Sumit says that he kept ignoring this behavior for a long time, but when the water went above his head, then he had to take this step.

Coach accused of conspiracy to promote Sachin Yadav

Sumit has also raised questions on the intentions of the coach. He alleged that Naval Singh is probably doing this because he wants to see his disciple Sachin Yadav ahead of Neeraj Chopra. Last year, Sachin Yadav finished fourth in the World Championship, while Neeraj Chopra, who was suffering from injury, came eighth. Sumit has expressed suspicion that there may be competitive interests behind this behavior of the coach.

Questions raised on the functioning of SAI and TOPS

Expressing displeasure over the attitude of the officers, Sumit Antil said that a week has passed since the complaint was lodged, but he has not received any receipt yet. He told that the CEO of TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) wanted a settlement in the first hearing itself. Sumit raised the question that if athletes of his stature are not being listened to, then what can other players expect.

SAI clarified: Naval Singh is not our employee

SAI has confirmed receiving the complaint. However, the institute has clarified that Naval Singh is not their employee. He is currently appointed as part of the National Coaching Camp of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). SAI is taking up the matter with the respective federation.
